Evaluation index
  • Task Success:
Whether participants successfully complete the task.
  • Task Failures:
Unexpected errors made by participants during task execution, such as missing steps or pressing the wrong button, leading to task failure. When addressing errors, it's essential to understand their causes to facilitate improvement.
  • Workflow Time:
The amount of time spent completing the task.
  • Task Rating:
The participant's level of satisfaction during task execution. This is assessed using a SUS (System Usability Scale) score calculated from the ratings of five participants to determine overall product satisfaction.
Executive
Brief
Before participants begin the tasks, the moderator must clearly provide the following instructions:
Hello, we will conduct usability testing for the "Senyou Alishan" app, consisting of five tasks. We will ask for some basic personal information and record your screen while you perform each task. After completing each task, you will be asked 10 questions about your satisfaction with the task, and we hope to hear any additional thoughts you have during the process. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the usability of the "Senyou Alishan" app and identify areas for improvement. You do not need to have prior experience with this app or related knowledge. Please remember that we are testing the product's usability, not you. Feel free to complete the tasks at your own pace. Thank you for participating!

Result analysis and Conclusion
This workshop conducted usability testing on a guided-tour APP to evaluate its interface's ability to guide users through operations and its information architecture's user-friendliness. Based on the results, the following recommendations for improvement were provided.

  • Avoid grouping different functions in the same section:
During tasks 1 and 2, participants struggled to locate ticket prices and transportation information or took too long to find them, leading to a higher failure rate.
Recommendation: Ensure text descriptions of functions are clear and cognitively intuitive to help users understand them better, thus improving the flow of operations.

  • Enhance functionality appropriateness and user-friendliness:
When selecting dates, participants were initially unaware of the slider functionality, and it was difficult to accurately stop at the desired date.
Recommendation: Replace the date selector with a design that aligns more closely with users' intuitive expectations, and, if necessary, add supplementary text or icons.

  • Improve button recognizability, cognitive relevance, and visibility:
During task 4, the map's visual design posed a usability issue, and the location of the search filter icon was neither obvious nor recognizable.
Recommendation: Increase the cognitive relevance and visibility of function icons.

  • Implement proper categorization and filtering:
During task 5, the information was not clearly categorized—for example, flower season details. Participants had to scroll repeatedly to find the needed information.
Recommendation: Plan hierarchical categorization more clearly to ensure smoother user operations.
Reflection
Local governments have developed various mobile guide apps that integrate information on cultural exhibitions, subsidies, and local events. However, few focus on providing in-depth historical and cultural introductions for specific areas. Explore Alishan utilizes Digital Twin technology, combining 3D virtual tours, trail panoramas, and GIS/GPS functions to offer comprehensive maps, trail routes, flower season updates, and multimedia educational content, creating a smart and interactive guiding experience. The app covers pre-trip planning, navigation, and on-site tours to enhance convenience and user engagement. Usability testing revealed that the initial user experience lacked a user-centered design, requiring repeated use to become familiar. This report aims to provide valuable recommendations for future interface revisions.
